The Hellenic Operational Research Society (HELORS) and the Department of Production & Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace are honored to invite you to the HELORS 2026 Conference on Operational Research.
The Hellenic Operational Research Society (HELORS) was founded in 1963 and has since been the principal scientific body promoting Operations Research and Management Science in Greece. The annual national conference is the flagship event bringing together researchers, academicians, and practitioners from Greece and abroad.
For 2026, the conference is hosted by the Department of Production & Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh) in Xanthi. This is a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research in OR/MS in the vibrant academic city of Thrace.
The conference welcomes conceptual, methodological, and empirical contributions in all fields of Operational Research / Management Science (OR/MS), Artificial Intelligence, Decision Support Systems, and related disciplines. We invite researchers, academicians, practitioners, and students to participate and present their current work.
The purpose of the HELORS 2026 Conference is to disseminate recent scientific advances stemming from the interactions of Operational Research / Management Science (OR/MS) with Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and modern applications in industry and society, as well as to promote international co-operation among researchers and practitioners working in these fields.
The conference aims to serve as a vibrant forum where theory meets practice: participants can present and discuss novel algorithms, models, and frameworks, as well as real-world case studies demonstrating the impact of OR/MS in domains ranging from supply chain management and healthcare to energy systems and smart cities.
We invite all researchers, academicians, practitioners, and students to participate and present their current research in Operational Research by means of methodological tools or techniques. All submitted abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the scientific committee for relevance and quality.
Please note that the submission must be done by the person who will present the paper and will be listed as the first author. Each submitted paper needs to be covered by one unique registration — two submitted papers require two separate registrations.
HELORS 2026 welcomes contributions across all areas of OR/MS. The following thematic tracks are representative but the call is open to all relevant research.
Linear, integer, nonlinear, stochastic, and robust optimization; exact and heuristic solution methods.
AI-driven decision support, ML for OR, neural networks, deep learning in management science.
Inventory management, vehicle routing, facility location, distribution network design.
MCDM/MCDA methods, preference modeling, outranking approaches, aggregation operators.
Hospital resource allocation, health policy evaluation, OR in public and social sector applications.
Renewable energy optimization, smart grids, energy policy models, climate-related decisions.
Network flows, scheduling, combinatorial optimization, transportation network analysis.
Prescriptive analytics, simulation, forecasting, stochastic modeling, big data applications in OR.
Project scheduling, quality management, production planning, lean and agile methodologies.
Portfolio optimization, credit risk, financial decision support, OR in banking and insurance.
Cooperative and non-cooperative games, auctions, bargaining, competitive strategy modeling.
Urban planning models, geospatial optimization, regional policy, infrastructure design.

Authors of papers presented at HELORS 2026 have multiple paths to publication.
All accepted abstracts will be compiled into a Book of Abstracts distributed at the conference opening.
Full papers presented at the conference may be submitted for inclusion in the electronic Book of Proceedings with an assigned ISBN.
A special issue in ORIJ (Springer) will be arranged on the occasion of the conference.
Impact Factor 2024: 2.7A second special issue in IJDSS is planned for extended versions of papers presented at the conference.
The conference will be held at the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh), one of Greece's established research universities. The host department, the Department of Production & Management Engineering, is based in Xanthi — a vibrant university city in northeastern Greece.
Xanthi is known for its picturesque old town, multicultural character, and lively student atmosphere. It is easily accessible by road, rail, and air via two nearby international airports.
